  • Griffiths receives Troland prize from the National Academy of Sciences

    The National Academy of Sciences announced today that Thomas Griffiths has received one of the two Troland Research Awards issued this year “for his research into how people and machines make decisions.” The Troland awards recognize unusual achievement by young investigators (defined as no older than 40) working within the broad spectrum of experimental psychology.

  • Princeton Catalysis Initiative fosters research innovation

    Through the Princeton Catalysis Initiative (PCI), scientists, engineers and scholars are reaching across disciplinary boundaries to create and explore new research areas at the intersection of what were once separate fields. PCI held its second annual symposium on campus Jan. 15-16, bringing researchers together to help fan the sparks of innovation and collaboration.

  • Machine learning could reduce testing, improve treatment for intensive care patients

    Doctors in intensive care units face a continual dilemma: Every blood test they order could yield critical information, but also adds costs and risks for patients. To address this challenge, researchers from Princeton University are developing a computational approach to help clinicians more effectively monitor patients’ conditions and make decisions about the best opportunities to order lab tests for specific patients.

  • Andlinger Center Speaks: U.S. carbon dioxide emissions rise by 3.4 percent

    Carbon dioxide emissions rose in the U.S. by 3.4 percent in 2018, according to preliminary estimates released this week. Increased electricity demand and economic growth are among the contributing factors the report cites. Interestingly, electricity production from coal actually dropped last year.

    Experts Judi Greenwald, Eric Larson and Michael Oppenheimer from Princeton University’s Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment comment on the news.

  • Princeton University’s new biodigester makes food scraps sustainable

    Princeton University’s latest sustainable innovation can be found along the edge of campus just behind FitzRandolph Observatory. There, under a white tent, hums a new biodigester that turns food waste into nutrient-rich compost. Since operations began in fall 2018, more than 16 tons of food scraps have been converted into compost.
